Your tank in Age of Conan: The Dark Templars

Your tank in Age of Conan: The Dark Templars - Image 1By Crom! We’ve covered quite a few character classes for Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures (PC and Xbox 360) and each one looks immensely playable! Most of what we’ve covered though fall under the nuker, DPS, or even the utility characters. In the Dark Templar, we have an honest to goodness tank (QJ Blogger Max F’s favorite class). The guy who keeps everyone else alive long enough for them to do their jobs.

What differentiates the Dark Templar from most tanks is the fact that he draws upon the powers of unnamed dark forces to do his job efficiently. While it makes him more powerful in combat, he has to give up some of his health in order to execute the move, thus posing a very intricate problem for players.

The questions most people will be asking when playing this character will be “Can I afford to use this skill without dying?” and “Will our healer be able to keep up?” As most of you are aware of, tanks are an absolute necessity in most MMORPGs and losing your tanks often lead in party wipes.

This character has a wide variety of abilities, from the simple Drain Life to the more insidious Blood Pact. A powerful skill that most will probably be aiming for is Pestilence Body on Level 40. This skill poisons all enemies around him giving him a bit of crowd control. The best one (my personal favorite) is the sadistic ability of the Dark Templar: He gains strength when other party members take hits. Imagine two Dark Templars working in conjunction in a party…beautiful.

Once again, Funcom has done a great job in adding a backstory to their characters and reasonable drawbacks to their powerful abilities.
