Yup, the Wii is region locked

wiiYup, it’s confirmed. Nintendo’s next-gen console, Wii, is region locked. No surprise there, but for the uninitiated (like Grandma), this means that Japanese Wii games will not work on North American Wiis and vice versa. We’ve known this already thanks to the numerous interviews about it, but now there is a concrete proof that this is so, and we need not rely on statements alone.

Apparently, 1up Japan was recently able to get up close and personal with a retail Japanese Wii. And from there, they found out what most of us already know. But on the bright side, they were able to confirm that Mii sharing between regions seems to be a possibility as they we’re able to drop US-made Miis into the Japanese Wii, and they didn’t encounter any problem.
