1UP acquired by… Dell?

Eh?

There has recently been a series of reports circulating that Ziff Davis is out to sell the gaming website 1UP and the publication Electronic Gaming Monthly, and from the looks of it, the bidding has a winner: Dell. While some are appalled by the mere idea of selling off these two popular gaming resources, others see it as a good move, especially when taking into consideration the fact that another Ziff Davis asset, Official Playstation Magazine, had to be discontinued in November last year.

There is still no official word from either 1UP or Ziff Davis about this sale, but various sites have already noticed that the Dell logo is now displayed on 1UP’s front page. Oddly enough, though, the logo only appears on Firefox and is not there when viewing the site using Internet Explorer. Another odd thing is that when the screenshot featured above was taken, we were looking at the Dell logo while browsing 1UP.com. However, after a while, the logo disappeared and can only be found by going to dell.1UP.com instead. Hmm…

The confirmation of this sale and its possible impacts on 1UP.com and/or EGM is still unknown.
