2007 won’t be seeing the Wii DVD

Wii - Image 1There’s been a lot of expectations surrounding the release of the Wii DVD model. Unfortunately, those who are hoping that it’ll come before we say goodbye to the year that was 2007 would have to deal with disappointment. Nintendo Japan has announced in their official site that the new DVD-playing Wii model won’t be coming out this year as expected. For more details on how this went down, click on the full article.

Wii DVD - Image 1Those of you hoping and keeping those fingers tightly crossed for a Wii DVD this year would want to loosen that grip a bit and let the blood flow back in your hands. Nintendo Japan has announced in its Q&A section of its official site that the new DVD-ready Wii won’t make the deadline this year.

This new model of the Wii basically retains all the other features of the current model (gaming,  photo management, internet, weather, etc), with an additional feature of being able to play DVDs. It is also stated clearly in the Q&A that there would be no further external modifications to the hardware, nor will there be any other new functions apart from this.

Reason for this delay (since they didn’t say outright that it is canceled, just that it won’t come out this year), is supposedly the “need to maintain effect production in order to keep up with worldwide demand for the Wii.” Well then we guess you can keep those fingers crossed, but just relax them a bit for now.
