2K Games: Civilization Revolution never to exist on PC

Civilization Revolution - Image 1Wondering if Firaxis’ Sid Meier‘s Civilization Revolution (Xbox 360, PS3, DS) will ever be announced for the PC platform, here’s some bad news: the possibility of it existing on our gaming rigs has pretty much been stretched into infinitesimal thinness. A producer from 2K Games has confirmed that it can’t be on the PC – and the how and why, as well as the who, are at the full article.

If you were hoping for Sid Meier‘s Civilization Revolution (Xbox 360, PS3, DS) to make its way into the PC, then here’s a bit of bad news: it’s not going to happen. In fact, they pretty much said that it’s impossible for the game to be ported on the PC, even if the players demand it be so. This comes directly from one of 2K Games‘ own producers, Jason Bergman. Ouch.

But why can’t it be a PC experience? Simply put, Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution is not a PC game – it’s been designed as a console game, from the controls to the entire game itself. In fact, if on the off chance that they were made to make a PC version of Civilization Revolution, they’d have to design a completely new game from the interface up – and that would take quite a while.

Okay, so the PC version is out. What about mouse and keyboard support for the console versions? The answer is still no, because as they’ve said, the interface has been tailor-made to suit the two-handed controller. Any different control scheme, and it would really be quite the task in making sure things work properly.

While this may seem a bit disconcerting to fans of the original PC franchise, fret not: there might be a Civilization 5 in the pipeline. This is due to Jason Bergman’s statement, presented as is below:

ItÂ’s been designed as a console game. ItÂ’s very, very different from Civilization 4 and we donÂ’t want it to be looked at as Civilization 5. We donÂ’t want people to think that this is meant to replace the existing Civ games. This is a totally different game, created exclusively for consoles.

Reading a bit between the lines, you’d see that he doesn’t want Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution to be considered as Civilization 5 – which could mean that he has an entirely different game for that position. Not that far-fetched, right? In any case, updates as we get them.
