2K Sports axes College Hoops 2K9

2K Sports axes College Hoops 2K9 - Image 1Could College Hoops 2K8 for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PS2 very well be the last of the franchise? That might be the case, given 2K Sport’s recent announcement that they’re scrapping 2K9, originally due this November 2008. More details regarding this matter are in the full article.

2K Sports - Image 1If you were looking forward to the latest iteration of 2K Sport’s College Hoops franchise, we’ve got some bad news. 2K Sports‘ parent company Take-Two has stated during a recent inquiry that they’ve cancelled College Hoops 2K9 due to licensing issues.

The news appears to have stemmed from negotiations gone sour between 2K Sports and the Collegiate Licensing Company (CLC). The CLC is responsible for the licensing and marketing of U.S. college teams for use in video games. Quoting Take Two’s official word on the matter:

2K Sports has decided not to continue negotiations with the CLC for the license for its top-rated College Hoops franchise, which would have been released next in November 2008. We are committed to providing fans with high-quality, critically-acclaimed sports games, but given our disciplined approach to the business, we do not believe the current discussions would result in an acceptable outcome.

The CLC has yet to comment on the matter. At the moment, 2K Sports’ latest release in the franchise is College Hoops 2K8. It’s available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PS2.
