30 classic games for Wii Shop Channel starting December

Donkey Kong JrNintendo is introducing four of its classic titles to a new generation of Wii gamers via the Wii Shop Channel. Every Monday beginning December 4, the Wii Shop Channel will  release the Wii versions  of some of the most beloved games from another era where “arcade” was a place to go to, not a word you read from history books.

For its opening week the following games will be available for download starting at 9:00 a.m. Pacific time:

Donkey Kong Jr. (Super NES, 1-2 players, 500 Wii Points): The sequel to the legendary Donkey Kong, players assume the role of Donkey Kong’s son, Junior, to rescue his dad who has been kidnapped and imprisoned in a cage by Mario.

The game requires jumping and climbing abilities to clamber up vines and chains, gather vital fruit and keys, and open the cage to free King Sr. The game features four different worlds filled with numerous climbing and jumping puzzles await in this timeless classic.

Victory Run. (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): A rally racing game with eight different stages set in different locations, from Paris to Dakar. Players get to race across highways, deserts, savannahs and coastlines but must dodge traffic and cross the finish line within the time limit to move to next level.

Players can upgrade their race car with such parts as tires, gears, engines, suspensions and brakes. Since driving on rough courses and hitting obstacles will cause damage to individual parts, gamer’s must be keen on making repairs. The right setup of parts can spell the the difference between being a winning and also ran.

Columns. (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): The updated version of an ancient Phoenician game, multicolored gems drop from the top of the screen into a pit. Players must arrange the order of the jewels into lines of three or more as they fall. If gems pile up and reach the top, the game is over.

Ristar. (Sega Genesis, 1 player, 800 Wii Points): Ristar, whose claim to fame is his amazing extendable arms and courage, must save the Valdi Planetary Systems from an evil space pirate.

Wii owners with high-speed Internet connections can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets.
