40GB PS3s to be released on US this November
Sony finally confirms today that they will be offering PlayStation 3 40GB models in the U.S. this coming November 2. This latest development was announced by no other than Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) President and CEO Jack Tretton.
The arrival of the 40GB models in the States began as rumors when several retail chains like Target and Best Buy started showing proofs (database, price scanner, etc.) for the said SKUs. Despite the overwhelming evidence, SCEA kept mum on the matter until Tretton’s announcement.
“I think the educational curve is starting to be broached with the general consumer,” commented Tretton when asked about his thoughts on the PlayStation 3’s status in the market throughout the end of the year and especially this coming holiday season.
The said model had already been introduced in Japan and Europe and was widely accepted by consumers. The 40GB PS3 will be priced for US$ 399.99. It sports two USB 2.0 ports but will not offer backwards compatibility and no multi memory card port.
