72% of PS2 games will work on European released PS3s
In recent news, Sony has announced that 72% of all PAL PlayStation 2 titles will run on the PlayStation 3. That makes a total of 1,782 games out of the 2,451 titles that were released. The firmware update that allows this (version 1.6) will be made available for download this Friday at 12 a.m. If you don’t have an internet connection, Sony customer services will have this update on disk.
Certain games have been known to have problems playing on the PS3 such as Kingdom Hearts and Twisted Metal Black. The specifics regarding the problems haven’t been disclosed though, so we can’t tell you what they are. Sony gave some advice on how to preventing potential problems from cropping up.
Things to do to prevent problems:
- Disconnect all no-essential USB devices
- Avoid using the 60Hz mode
- Skip the non-essential FMV sequences
- Limit the non-network players to seven
The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) David Reeves has promised that future firmware updates which will add more titles to the list of playable PS2 games for the PS3 are being made. However, he also stressed that they would be focusing more on developing new services and entertainment features for Sony’s PS3.
