Sony’s Kaz Hirai and David Reeves Get Promoted
The gods must be smiling down on these two Sony execs (or maybe laughing, but I really can’t tell); thanks to Loudninja, we can all ponder on this new development for a moment.
Kazuo Hirai, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) America, and David Reeves, president and CEO of SCE Europe, are now also vice presidents of Sony Computer Entertainment’s corporate executive group. Reeves and Hirai will now be very much involved in cooking up corporate strategy for the SCE Group, adding to their other responsibility of running SCE Europe and SCE America.
With the scheduled launch of Sony’s PlayStation3 this November, we may very well assume that these two will be awfully busy with, well, everything Sony-related. Sony will be faced with a make-or-break situation come November. I’m actually rooting for the company to “make” it. I’d love for the PS3 to be the next best console.
Sony Computer Entertainment has had both Hirai and Reeves since 1995, and they were elevated to CEO status in 2003 and 2004 respectively. With this new rank, don’t think that it’s all going to be fun for these guys. They may have stepped up the corporate ladder (causing more zeroes to be annexed to their salaries) and have gained more strategic control over SCE Inc., but it won’t be all fun and games for them – quite the contrary. They have to step up their game, too.
