Wii Price Revealed? Set for $300 US / $350 CAD

Wii Price

The big thought on everyone’s mind has been the what final asking price for Nintendo’s plunge into the next-gen market will be. Given the sturdy price of $400 for a loaded Xbox 360, and the accusedly steep price of $600 for a decked out PS3, Nintendo is in a prime spot to come in way below the competition with an extremely affordable next-gen console. It was previously announced that the Wii would come in at $250 or below in the US – a real steal for the highly-praised revolutionary console – totally decimating the other price ranges.

But did Nintendo set the bar too low? Could they get the same amount of sales at a slightly higher price? Well if our information is correct, Nintendo may be counting on it.

One of our bloggers has taken a snap shot of the computer listing at a Future Shop for the Wii. Obviously, the blogger would prefer not to have his name plastered on this leak, which is why you have yours truly writing this. According to the information (which is from a Canadian store) the Wii is listed for $349.99 CAD, which comes out a little bit over $300 US ($307.75 to be exact) so its reasonable to assume that the Wii will be set at $299.99 here in the states.

Our blogger also says that the launch titles for the Wii will be set at $69.99 CAD, which converts to around $60 US. And for the Ninty obsessed, also note that the Wii has an SKU of 10075268 and the UPC Code is 400100097137. (Hey, some people get a kick out of that sort of thing… weirdos…)

So did Nintendo decide that the price gap was a bit too wide? Do they feel really comfortable with the Wii’s potential after the post-E3 ravings? And of course, there’s always the possibility that this information isn’t solid, and that the Wii could go for $250 here in the US… which would probably send many Canadians into a raving state, or at least across the border. Or perhaps it boils down to Future Shop just making a guess to have a number in their system? We’ll find out in a few months, but until then, this is something to chew on.

Digg it!
