3060000000055028The game begins in 2008, one year after the events of Chaos Theory. Sam Fisher is serving 20 years behind bars after committing some kind of crime that may have had something to do with the death of his 23 year-old daughter Sarah. At the beginning of the game you must break out of jail during a fire, with the help of inmate Jamie Washington who is part of the John Brown’s Army gang.

As you would expect, stealth is key to your escape, with security cameras and shadows of the guards aiding you on your escape. Once Sam breaks out he returns to Washington and meets up with some new characters who help him out during the game. These characters include John Brown’s Army boss Emile Dufraisne, deputy Carl Moss and the chemical expert Enrica Villablanca.

The fourth game in the series will feature a host of new environments, moves, weapons and gadgets, as well as a new gameplay feature that is said to change the whole game, but details on this are currently under wraps. “At this early stage we don’t want to reveal too much, but this new Splinter Cell is bringing an obvious but as yet unexploited aspect to the genre. We sometimes wonder how come nobody thought about it before,” said creative director Daniel Berube.

The game will use the same engine that made the previous game look pretty astounding, and the game’s director Daniel Berube thinks the Splinter Cell 4 environments look more realistic than those seen in the trailer for Metal Gear Solid 4. The game is in development for PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC and Xbox 360.
