Dragon Quest: Hack and Slash Weaponry

It’s rumored that Dragon Quest IX is heading to Wii. There hasn’t been any official confirmation, but back in July, Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) posted in their rumors section that the future of DQ9 lies on the success of Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (DS) and Dragon Quest for the Wii.

The Dragon Quest series of RPG games is a huge success in Japan. It tells the story of the legendary hero known as Roto. It features quite a number of religious overtones and thus suffered from substantial censorship in the North American localizations. The game is not as successful outside Japan due to the popularity of the Final Fantasy series.

While we wait for official word from Square Enix, Dragon Quest fans in Japan had a glimpse of what the Wii game could be like. The Japanese ad for Dragon Quest shown below shows a baby sword and what seems to be a motion sensing  box that could detect the swinging and slashing actions of the sword. Looks interesting, but something tells us that this is more of a TV sword game than a Wii game. But still, it gives us an idea of the sword swinging mechanic that’ll possibly be utilized for the Wii game.
