In an interview with Mercury News, Robbie Bach, Microsoft’s chief Xbox officer, revealed some of their future digital entertainment plans. About the Xbox 360, here are some excerpts from the review:

q: Microsoft recently reorganized its top team in an effort to pick up its competitive pace in Internet-related businesses against rivals Google and Yahoo. The company is so big. How do you become more nimble?

a: That is something we focus on. In most cases, that comes down to leadership. Our job is to make sure things happen quickly. When we launched the first version of Xbox, things were fairly centralized. In a funny way, it was a small group but the decision-making was a little constipated. Everything had to go up the chain and down the chain. With Xbox 360, the vast majority of the decisions I wasn’t involved in. That’s what we are trying to build into the organization.

q: Any updates on anticipated Xbox 360 sales during the holiday season?

a: No, I don’t think there is anything new. We are in the first 90 days, with the 2.75 million, 3 million unit range.
  
q: It seems like that was low-balling a little bit on the estimate.

a: What you have to recognize is, nobody has done what we are doing. This is the first time anyone has done a three-territory launch (North America, Japan and Europe) in the same holiday. We are
well-prepared for it. Everything is going exactly as we planned it. But, the first time is the first time. That makes forecasting a little bit challenging.

q: How much market share do you hope to grab from Sony?

a: It is our worldwide goal, over the life-cycle of the next generation, to be the market leader.”
