A Third Tomb Raider Movie in the Works?
Rumors regarding a third Tomb Raider was confirmed by Eidos‘ Ian Livingstone who revealed that their company is currently negotiating with Paramount for a possible third installment of Tomb Raider movies.
However, before you Jolie fans and TR fanatics get too excited, you should know that there is still no certainty to this as there’s no movie script yet and nothing has yet been signed. Livingstone revealed that the idea is to make a movie-game script tie-in “to have them both in harmony rather than out of kilter – which has happened in the past.”
The main focus of this movie, if it pushes through, will be on a complete history of Lara Croft’s character, “from the very early designs right through to Tomb Raider: Legend, and a little glimpse of what’s happening in the future.” Eidos believes that the success of Tomb Raider: Legend, which was handled by Crystal Dynamics and not the UK-based Core Design, rejuvenated Lara Croft’s character.
Angelina Jolie and actor Chris Barrie, who also appeared in TR 1&2, have both expressed interest in playing their same roles for a possible third Tomb Raider movie. I think that making a TR movie with a movie-game script tie-in would be a great idea while the TR:Legend game for XBox is still doing well, or as they say, strike while the iron is hot.
