Retailers Want Wii
This scan from a foreign magazine details how Nintendo is being looked at in a completely different light by retailers for the upcoming generation. A man, who hid his real name under the alias “Bob” talked of his experiences. Bob is the man in charge of selling Nintendo products to retailers.
Earlier, he had quite a difficult job. Shopkeepers thought that Nintendo was on its last legs. They thought Nintendo would go the way of Sega. The GameCube was talked about in same tone as someone discussing the Dreamcast. After all, shopkeepers didn’t exactly know too much about games – they were just there to make some money.
With the DS, they thought that it was going to fail. Everyone expected the PSP to wipe the floor with the thing. However, that was not the case. The DS became a huge success. Right behind the success of the DS came glowing reports on how the Wii was working. It was truly a Revolutionary console said reports from E3. Everything from hardcore gaming magazines to casual gaming features in newspapers were giving it glowing reports!
Just like that, retailers did a complete turn. They were coming up to Bob and congratulating him. They wanted the Wii and they wanted it bad. They were making more shelf room than the GCN ever got in its lifetime. Bob seems to be very happy now!
“I believe you received that buzz [sic]. That for some time Nintendo was not playing with the big boys anymore. ItÂ’s unbelievable how fast the mood of shopkeepers can change. For years the death of Nintendo was predicted to me and now I [was being] welcomed like I [sic] was Jesus. They almost [dropped] on [their] knees when I [brought] them an order list.”
