Is Class More Important Than Skills? MMO Bloggers Speak Up
At the moment, the topic of debate is the familiar Classes Vs. Skills comparison which has been around for quite a while now. This argument has already seen previous resurrections, but it’s now back for another spin. This time around, the whole topic revolves on which one should take greater importance in the MMORPG world.
Prominent MMO bloggers such as Scott Jennings, Raph Koster, Ryan Shwayder, Steve Danuser, Damion Schubert, as well as many others, have already expressed their opinions on the subject, but as usual, the camps remain divided.
While some claim that Class Systems are better since it allows for more powerful builds that are easier to understand, followers of the Skills school of thought claim that skills should take precedence since it allows a more flexible and customizable build for one’s character. So while one claims that the other is too complex, the other camp basically dislikes the idea of being pigeonholed into definite character types.
On the other hand, there are yet other people who believe that like the old Pen-and-Paper RPG systems such as Dungeons and Dragons or Hero, skills are there to further solidify and flesh out the class that you have chosen for your character.
Will one win the day over the other this time around? We’ll see…
