Nero 7 Has PVR Functionality
Nero is popularly known for their CD/DVD burning software, but with competition like Roxio, who already has a third-party solution for burning recorded shows via their SnapStream Beyond TV PVR Kit and Easy Media Creator, Nero has to step up to the playing field.
What Nero did is take an all-in-one approach with their updated Nero 7 software to be released later this month. The updated version will now allow users to stream live TV to, say, your Xbox360 for playback using Windows Media Center Edition PC. The update will also allow users to transfer audio and video files to PSPs, iPods, cellphones, and other PMPs. Below is a list of the new PVR-related features in the software update:
- Receive analogue as well as all digital formats and record those on your hard drive
- Support for TV tuner cards (including DVB-T, -S, -C)
- Basic EPG (Electronic Program Guide) support
- Schedule your recording based on EPG (Electronic Program Guide)
- Manually record TV signal to hard drive
- Capture video from any source: TV cards, graphic cards, camcorder, VCR, webcam (composite/S-video)
- Blu-ray and HD-DVD data recording
Though these features are not exactly what you would call ground-breaking, at least Nero makes it easier for users by making an all-in-one process as compared to what Roxio currently offers.
