Interview With Daniel Newman On Vanguard’s Crafting System

Vanguard

With all the Vanguard updates, it kinda feels like Vanguard week, don’t it? Well, here comes another one: an interview with Vanguard‘s own Daniel Newman regarding the crafting system used in Sigil’s upcoming title.

Daniel Newman, Associate Game Designer over at Sigil Games Online, joined the Vanguard team to help with the implementation of the game’s crafting system. He, along with Nick Parkinson and the entire Vanguard team, took some time out of their busy schedule for an interview with MMO Craft News.

When it comes to crafting, the question of diversity will come into play sooner or later and sure enough, MMO Craft News rose to the challenge and asked just how diverse the crafting class is. Here’s the answer straight from Newman himself:

Many of the same recipes will be used by all players of the same profession through standard progression, but we do have an aspect of specialization in the game with recipes that can be learned or received through quests and through faction. We will also have hard to find and secret recipes tied up in the mix. Players will be able to stand out among the rest, but itÂ’s going to take some work.

Another question was, “How will crafted items compare to looted items?” The answer? According to Newman, “Crafted items are comparable to adventuring items that require the same amount of time and effort, but they do have a potential of being better.  The best items in the game will require work with all spheres and it wonÂ’t be easy to get the better items.”

It certainly seems that Vanguard‘s crafting system has been well thought out, and if the implementation goes without a hitch, then it will definitely add another dimension to an already impressive-looking game.
