Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII @ TGS 2006
Just like E3, Square Enix unveiled yet another trailer for Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII at TGS 2006. Unlike the E3 trailer, however, this one features about five seconds of gameplay video, which gives us a small, inconclusive peek at how the game might eventually play.
Combat in Crisis Core seems more “real-time battle” than the classic Active Time Battle of FFVII, but with a twist. There’s a spinning roulette that would stop during key times in battle. No firm details were revealed on how this works, however. There’s also hints of summons-based battles, where Zack faces off against the FFVII biggies like Neo-Bahamut.
As Crisis Core takes place before FFVII really begins, most of the story, as you fans know, will revolve around the events that turn Sephiroth into one of the baddest bad-a**es in video gaming history. You also get to see how Aerith and Zack first meet, how Zack and Cloud first meet, that sort of “prequel” stuff. What’s interesting is that the 1UP preview refers to a “dark-haired dude” in the game that “does the whole ‘one-winged angel’ thing way before Sephiroth.” They think it’s… the character from the PS2’s Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII‘s secret ending. We’re still looking for a video of this trailer in action. If we find out anything new, you can bet that we’ll update this story.
