The minigames Chocobo plays
The chocobo first made its appearance in Final Fantasy II. Since then, it seems the popularity of the yellow, goofy bird has been phenomenal. So it’s a no brainer when Square Enix decided to cash in its emu-like charm. Chocobo’s Magic Book was on display at the recent TGS and the mini-games we’ve eyed are looking, to say the least, marvelous.
First of the three is Cid’s Job Challenge. The upper screen is filled with ccharacter sprites representing all the different job classes from Final Fantasy III. Make a match on the lower screen by tapping the correct sprite. A pair of shutters close on the top screen to add challenge as the game progresses.
Malboro Hand separates the screen into a 3×3 forest grid. A Bomb and the tentacular plant Malboro appear in different panels. Tap the bomb and game’s over. Tapping the Malboro resets their positions. The last one is Bomb Search. Uh, remember good old Minesweeper? There.
All mini games are single player in nature and are Final Fantasy-themed. Furthermore, developer Square Enix used older character sprites, probably to appeal to older gamers.
