Chase the Penguin in “Sorta like a tag game in Lua”
TacticalPenguin has revealed an ongoing Lua tag project in our forums. Right now it’s in its basic stages, with a basic idea: two players control either a penguin or a crosshair, and they chase each other all over the PSP screen. The penguin is controlled using the D-pad, while the crosshair is controlled using the face buttons (use them like a D-pad).
Simple, but it’s the simple ideas that are the beginning of many games, right? We’ll be looking forward to future builds to see where TacticalPenguin will take this game.
Looking over our download site and PSP Updates, we realize that “Sorta like a tag game in Lua” is the newest of a line of penguin-themed games from different dev authors. So if you’re interested in more Antarctic aviary fun, you can try PengBobsled and dodge falling rocks while shredding snow. Or navigate the icy caverns and canyons of Penguin Scramble. Or – if you’re feeling mean enough, Poke the Penguin until he drops. If you’re not too busy chasing him, that is.
UPDATE: TacticalPenguin returned to our forums to release a small update on “Sorta like…” starting with the name he’s calling it: Chase the Penguin (v0.1). This version, v0.1, retains the basic gameplay code from yesterday, and it still runs off Lua Player though a start page and a “You caught the penguin!” banner have been added.
Remember when we said yesterday that the simple ideas are the foundation of many games, right? Well, Tactical plans to work the following into future builds of Chase the Penguin:
- Single player mode in which penguin moves by itself
- Score/timing system
- Redo the in-game graphics
- Make the game standalone, and
- Anything else that is suggested
Any suggestions? We have the comments and the forum pages!
