Info on Neverwinter Nights 2 tools and the first patch
Developer diaries are an interesting thing. They give you information straight from the source and at the same time you find out about that developer’s thoughts on his project and such, you also know it’s making good press for their software.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing, especially when it comes to the highly- anticipated (Thank goodness for pre-orders and sufficient stock) Neverwinter Nights 2. Darren Monahan, executive producer at Obsidian Entertainment, wrote one last pre-release entry in their NWN 2 dev diary, and it’s got a lot of things eager gamers and game modders will be expecting.
Along with the release of the game, the developers are hauling out their very first patch. Now, they haven’t mentioned any special problems with the game, which is why their first patch carries a new version of the Dungeon Master Client (DMC) you originally found in the the first game. This allows one player to act as the “god” of your group’s multiplayer adventures, changing in-game content on the fly to suit the needs of your adventure. This patch also carries new druid spells, so that should be a definite treat for the nature-loving gamers out there.
Monahan also talks about the NWN 2 toolset and how they wanted to make it more accessible to people. To that end, the team of beta testers were given the opportunity to give additional input on the toolset, leading to the creation of plug-in functionality. He mentions some of the plug-ins aspiring dungeon makers will be able to use, such as Vordan’s Shop Wizard, which lets users quickly make in-game shops, and GuS’ M4C Land & Tree Generator, which speeds up the process of designing your own personal wilderness.
All in all, Neverwinter Nights is looking to become a very hot commodity for RPG fans everywhere. If only the game store could tell me about my pre-order being ready…
