Gamestop’s US$5.00 GoW-delay apology (and my apology)
First of all, a heartfelt apology…Gears of War‘s Emergence Day is November 12. You know that. I “knew” that (as in knew it in the past, but then promptly forgot). But because I kept on talking on and on about Gears of War and how I so wanted to get it on November 7, the November 7 launch day became confused with Emergence Day in my fanboying mind. It got worse: I kept on pressuring my friends (even the QJ bloggers who aren’t fans of the genre) that they should also try get this game on November 7, well… you know how mob mentality works, right? Pretty soon me and my buddies had brainwashed ourselves into calling November 7 “Emergence Day”.
I’m an idiot. It wasn’t until a commenter called me an idiot that I got this “whole life flashing before my eyes” and I remembered all the press releases that explicitly said November 12 was Emergence Day and November 7 was a launch day.
I’m sorry. So, to all of you, I am sorry for any confusion I’ve caused (I feel like such a noob). I hope that taking the time to make an apology is a sign that we do take our blogging responsibilities seriously, and when a gross (or grotesque) error pops up, we will take responsibility for it.
Whew. Apologies are painful…on to the blogging!
Amon666 said over a day ago that “Gamestop got their shipment around 2:00p.m. in Jersey.” This was in response to dfcd’s comment: “This is intensely annoying… I never even got my call from the local EB to pick it up. What the hell. It’s the seventh.”
At that time we thought this was just a minor hiccup. But you’ve seen Victor B.’s article on how the Gears of War shipment has hit a snag. Read the comments in that article and you’ll see it’s a U.S.-wide phenomenon affecting those who pre-ordered their game at EB or Gamestop – 70% of the GoW boxes never got Fedexed out of Memphis.
Gamestop’s US$ 5.00 apology. Over at Xbox 360 Fanboy, commenters are saying the same thing. The same thing is true in other sites: Gamestop / EB is offering a US$ 5.00 apology to those who didn’t get their game yet. The game won’t be available until today, November 9, 10:30 a.m. EST – it’s like what, 11:45 a.m. in New York as I’m typing this? And is that EST “Eastern Standard Time” in New York or “Eastern Summer Time” in Australia or is it “ESTimated time, our best guess”? Hehehe.
So did you get your game already? Or were you one of those who cancelled the pre-order and just went to Best Buy? Did you really get a US$ 5 refund? Let us know if you have already gotten the call from EB.
