Pioneer – Shipping Blu-ray Drive for PC In January

Single layer BD-R/RE playback and record, dual-layer BD-ROM playback supported.

Pioneer has announced that they will start to ship their ATAPI Blu-ray drive for PC at the end of January of 2006. Since this is facing the OEM channel, the price is not revealed yet.

This drive has implemented the following standard: Record and playback of BD-R, rewritable BD-RE; Playback of BD-ROM. BD-R/RE/ROM is compatible with the record and playback of DVD±R DL and DVD±R/RW. Record and playback of CD is not supported any more.

This drive will be demonstrated on the 2006 International CES Expo in Las Vegas. The plan for retail version of this product will be announced soon.
