PS3 HDTV woes

PS3So the PS3 was launched, and the lucky fans were able to snag their monster of a console, watch others turn green with envy as they enjoy PS3 eye candy on their HDTVs, and discover what Sony‘s new baby has to offer.

Unfortunately, that may be a bad thing if you happen to discover a few glitches, and our source has been getting reports from various sources about it. CheapAssGamer and TheManRoom claims that there are “odd instances of HDMI failure with certain brands of TV sets.” While the said odd instances didn’t affect the XMB, the games had a bit of a problem with the HDMI compatibility. IGN also mentioned the backwards compatibility glitch and lack of upscaling functionality.

While the PS3 seems to work okay with most 1080p TV sets, 720p and 1080i sets are having trouble with the display settings. As IGN reported, “if your HDTV has 1080i support but not 720p support, you will not get 1080i out of games that do not fit it. Your 1080i-only HDTV will not accept the 720p signal and the game will kick down to 480p mode.”
