No surprise: Gears of War tops “All Formats” chart
Pop, six, squish, uh uh, Cicero, Lipschitz! Yep, they had it coming like a “Cell Block Tango” musical number with fur boas and flamenco scarves. It was no surprise, and no one’s complaining. Let the bells ring, and the trumpets, err, trumpet. Gears of War is now at the top of the “All Formats” chart in the UK.
Released last Friday, GoW hasn’t even aged a week yet in the European market, and now it’s clocking numbers of over 99,614 copies sold as confirmed by Chart Tracks. This marks the title as the fastest-selling original game for the 360. Are we surprised? No we’re not. And the whole “million copies by Christmas” forecast is solidifying more and more into a real goal for Epic Games.
In fact, since it was announced that GoW ousted Halo 2 off the Xbox Live charts, this news is as expected. But where are they going from here, aside from the million copies sold by holiday season? Well, it’s still anyone’s ball game. If Halo 2 was dethroned, then GoW could also be. But how far (or near?) into the future, no one can tell just yet…
