EdgeFX to Wiimote: I’m your Nunchuk
In more ways than one, everything is all about control. Gaming companies, when they released their respective consoles are all looking for control, whether they admit it or not. Likewise, Sony and Nintendo are fighting over a similar yet different battle that is centered on controllers. Hello motion-sensing? Hello?
Anyway, it looks like Sony just called for some reinforcements as videogame hardware developer SplitFish GameWare just released its radical controller, the EdgeFX. While the said controller is currently compatible with PS2 units only, the company mentioned that the retail version of EdgeFX PS3 are now in production. They added that they have “patents pending on key internal portions of this technology.”
In case you’re wondering what this EdgeFX is capable of doing, here’s a brief preview provided by SplitFish themselves. Also, the company added that the controller will be initially available at retail chain GameStop for US$ 69.99.
The EdgeFX features all the normal buttons of a PS2 controller and complete support for all PS2 games. It also features force feed back, a speed button to adjust the overall controller speed and a focus button to switch to precision mode. The EdgeFX allows you to move at maximum speeds and then instantly slow down for precision targeted shooting when the focus button is pressed. The rumble-mouse in the right hand adds to a true interactive experience.
What do you think guys? We know you’re not that concerned yet because it is only available for the PS2. However, they categorically mentioned that a PS3 version is coming soon. With the possibilities that keep on popping up, now we’re truly seeing the emerging power of PS3’s hardware.
