Nintendo working on new software for DS/Wii connectivity
Nintendo has confirmed in an interview with MCV that it is currently working towards the development of new software that will take advantage of the interoperability of the DS and the Wii.
According to James Honeywell, DS product manager at Nintendo, more cross-platform titles will follow in the wake of Pokemon Battle Revolution. Pokemon Battle Revolution includes features that lets players use DS handhelds as Wii controllers.
“You will definitely see Wii and DS interoperability as soon as we have it finished,” said Honeywell. “We havenÂ’t made any announcements over specific software for connectivity, but there are definitely a number of exciting things in creation which we want to bring to market as soon as possible. WeÂ’re hopeful that will be next year.”
Honeywell also distanced DS/Wii connectivity from the kind of inter-console connectivity provided by Microsoft and Sony, saying that while Nintendo’s competitors are focusing on the multimedia aspect such as streaming video and other media, Nintendo will concentrate more on “offering new forms of gameplay, fun and interaction.”
