Go retro: Streets of Rage Remake
For those who are too young or too old to remember, Streets of Rage was a beat-’em-up Sega for the Sega Mega Drive and the Genesis. Gameplay was similar to Double Dragon and Final Fight and the storyline gives players flashbacks of old 80s cop shows.
Fast forward to 2006. Bomber Games has developed Streets of Rage Remake and has made a number of changes. The original sprites were kept plus a number of new characters, moves, and bad guys were added. Some of the stages were also completely revamped with new effects, colors and scroll layers, and the Soundtrack was also redone.
Streets of Rage Remake was done from the ground up, careful to remain faithful to the original series.
Here’s the rundown:
- 8 characters (2 secret ones)
- 43 locations with multi-path splits
- 52 enemy types with all their original moves
- 34 different remixes
- New options and modes were added
And it’s free, runs on minimal system requirements and weighs in at around 12.9 MB, so just go ahead and download it from the Bomber Games site. Enough said.
