Impossible Mission for the C64… and the Wii?

One look at what NeoGAF’s Infernal Monkey claims are scans of the back of the manual to Gottlieb Pinball Classics, and we’re wondering if System 3 has done more than bring the 1984 classic Commodore 64 (brain fryer) Impossible Mission over to the Virtual Console.

And I say again: Box art?

  • Box art? Definitely not just a VC port.
  • The graphics certainly don’t look like anything Commodore 64-like. Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the old, c/o MobyGames, and the new (close-up of one of the game screens) that won’t bust your brain to figure:

Luke, I am your father. NOOOOOOO! - Image 1 Luke, I am your father. NOOOOOOO! - Image 2

We did mention that the PSP and DS will be getting Impossible Mission. In those cases, it most likely won’t be C64 ports without the spit-and-polish of the PSP or DS. We did mention that Impossible Mission would be coming for the Wii in Q1 2007 as a “new Wii title.” Nothing more than that, though. Are these the screens of Impossible Mission for the Wii? Could these also be the screens for an Impossible Mission for the PSP?

In the same NeoGAF thread, someone else cites an interview with Retro Gamer and System 3. Yes, Impossible Mission the C64 game will make an appearance on the VC for old-school purists who want nothing but the original game, to heck with technological advances. At the same time, Impossible Mission will also be available as that box-art’d, spit-and-polish Wii (and we presume PSP and DS) full-priced game for those who may complain that the full processing power of the Wii would be wasted for just a simple carry-over. Theoretically this should satisfy both sides of the retro-to-the-future debate. Eh, we’ll just read the comments later and see if the theory holds.
