CES: Sony says 1M PS3s shipped to North America

There they are.Sony has recently announced at the Consumer Electronics Show that they have so far already managed to ship a million PS3s to North America since its launch in November 2006. However, it has been noted by the Associated Press that this figure is still only half of the 2 million PS3s that Sony had hoped to ship out by the end of 2006.

In any case, some have attributed this to the fact that the PS3’s release has been moved from the Spring release they originally intended. That, on top of low numbers of production, no thanks to glitches with blue laser diodes.

On this occasion though, Dave Karraker was a good sport, and when he was asked if Sony was concerned that their competitors are selling more units, he replies, “Are we worried about strong sales of the Wii or Xbox 360? Not really … It was a great year for the industry overall. With the tide all ships rise.”

Amen.
