Paying the price for Hellgate
So what else is new with Flagship’s Hellgate: London? Yeah, we already know they’ll be ready for release by March. But you didn’t know that its multiplayer component would be a subscription-based online service, did you now?
Uh-huh, that’s what Bill Roper himself said in an interview with Shacknews at CES in Las Vegas. Apart from that, the company also has its eyes set on launching an open beta prior to the official launch of the game. While pricing details have yet to be revealed, Roper did mention something about the game having some sort of trial or free play. Just in case you have yet to be absolutely decided on whether or not you’re gonna get the game.
“I think that just as Diablo and Diablo II started this religious argument over whether they’re RPGs or not, I think that Hellgate will spark the same debate over whether it’s an MMO or not.” Oh, and the answer to that debate would be that it is an MMO. It’s been designed as such since day one.
Anyway, just to give you a bit of refresher, the things you’d expect from the game are the Hardcore mode, similar to Blizzard’s Diablo II, the multiplayer feature which will contain all the missions, as well as the story, and of course, the exclusive modes and content.
