Capcom speaks up about acquisition rumor
“Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculations.” That’s the template response of Microsoft representatives when asked about an unconfirmed news. Apparently, that doesn’t help much in dissipating the rumors, no, not in the least bit.
But with the newest thread of rumors piquing the interest of the gaming community regarding Microsoft’s purchase of Capcom, you’d think they’d be more forthcoming or reassuring. That’s just wishful thinking, though. Good thing there’s always two sides to a story. With the supposed purchaser still keeping mum about the rumor, let’s find out what the purchased has to say about it.
According to Gamespot, a Capcom representative told them that, “It’s a 3-year old rumor, most likely refueled by our recent spate of 360 titles.” Hmmm…yeah, that’s a good way of looking at it. Gamestop then gives out its verdict as to the veracity of the supposed acquisition. It’s bogus. It must be.
Then again, it’s not highly improbable for Microsoft to at least consider the idea of purchasing giant Capcom. After all, they do need some more stable grounding in the Japanese market. And with Capcom in their pockets, if ever, that’s just as good as securing their tenure in the land of the rising sun, eh?
But as we said, there’s always two sides to a story. Capcom’s is just half of it. So, Microsoft, care to say anything about it?
