Australians go game-happy in 2006
In the latest report generated by the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA), the nation of Australia is starting to cast off the bias that it’s a nation of gamblers, and is now proudly wearing the label “gamer” as proven by the 2006 sales figures.
According to IEAA, in a country of 21 million people, 12.5 millions games were sold in 2006, and generated US$ 925 million for the games industry. According to the independent market research group GfK Australia, Senior Account Manager Daniel Morse notes that “The introduction of new systems to the market has undoubtedly driven sales with all formats performing really well throughout the year.”
As numbers go, hardware sales went up to US$ 329 million, while software sales generated US$ 596 million.
