US 2.0 Firmware, finally

Well, after delay, after delay, firmware 2.0 for US PSP users is finally available for download on the PlayStation site.

We are getting reports that the Background Changer does not work in this version. (UPDATE: This is untrue, it does work but is turned off by default in the “Themes” menu.) Also, it appears that it will not write over the Japanese 2.0 version. Comment below with your findings. Additionally, there are reports of people being able to do the network update successfully via WiFi.

NOTE: Upgrading to any firmware higher than 1.5 will make your PSP UNABLE TO RUN ANY HOMEBREW APPLICATIONS OR GAMES ? we warned you.

UPDATE #2: It appears our previous findings were incorrect. Here is the real scoop: Tonight Japan got another update. It has the exact same version number (2.00) but it’s slightly larger and has the same MD5 hash as the US 2.00 update released tonight. When you take the Japan 2.00 update from July and compare it to the US update tonight it not only has a different MD5 hash but is also 32,448 bytes smaller than the US 2.00.

The MD5 hash of the July JPN 2.00 Update was:
62f6d3d18038f463092e3d6653fae195

While the AUG JPN 2.00 Update MD5 Hash is now:
50c7032754835b588319c1a6c652cdc0

Guess what the AUG US 2.00 MD5 Hash is?
50c7032754835b588319c1a6c652cdc0

Here is an image of the July JPN 2.00 Update and tonight’s US 2.00 Update. Enjoy.
