Peter Moore: fanning fanboy flames in 3, 2, 1…
Once in a while, we’d really like it if competitors could just be nice to one another. After the release of Microsoft‘s latest financial results, Peter Moore decides to show his verbal guns through an interview with IGN. In it, he manages to give props to Microsoft and Nintendo whilst firing off some more derogatory remarks Sony‘s way.
Moore brings up many issues surrounding the current strength of the Xbox 360. For one thing, he’s happy with 5.1 attach rate at present, and expects that Xbox Live will be a big factor in determining the console’s success relative to the PS3 and Wii. According to him, Microsoft has to be “cognizant that there are different consumers that have different needs for Xbox Live” and cater to each of those needs accordingly.
At the same time, he manages to add praise for one competitor while bringing the verbal beatdown on another:
The innovation that the Wii is, I’m certainly a big fan of. It ties in exactly with what Nintendo needs to do. And it ties directly into their strong intellectual property that is more youth oriented and more family oriented. The PS3, I really don’t know what I would look at there that we’re really missing…. The online service, [Sony’s] still trying to get it up to speed and there’s nothing really there that I can really point to that I wish we had. You know, certainly the price point of the PS3 isn’t something that I want to emulate.
Sigh. That certainly isn’t nice at all. Definitely some fighting words from the man with the tattooed release dates. Hopefully Sony will have something to say about it in the next few days.
