Speed boost details for Daedalus PSP R9
Ooohhh…what are those screenies below? Intrigued, eh? Well you should be. Because that’s part of the speedup details for StrmnNrmn‘s Daedalus PSP R9. Basically, what the table signifies are the framerate for various scenes in Daedalus R8, as well as the framerate for R9, which is currently on testing. The last column should tell you the relative speedup.
Now, if you’ll look closely (oh, go ahead and click on the thumbnails for a bigger view. It’s for free.) you’ll see that the change in framerate is significantly better, averaging from about 40% running speed to almost double. That’s not a good thing. That’s a great thing to happen.
So what if it runs faster? Well, for you newbies out there, this means that the games would feel a lot more responsive and playable. You see, StrmnNrmn has got some pretty lofty ideals. He says, “Anything over 20fps ‘feels’ pretty good, but my long-term goal is to get this up to 30fps for as many titles as possible.” That’s called setting the bar high.
Anyhow, he finally notes that the images here were taken by running the emulator with ‘optimal settings’. For the existing build, disabling audio output is included. Keep it posted here for more word on his audio support soon, including some stuff on its impact on performance.
