Michael Ephraim gives Australian PS3 launch details
Sony Australia‘s managing director Michael Ephraim was at Walsh Bay, Sydney today to spill the beans on what exactly fans can expect from the Playstation 3’s launch in Australia. Now some details have already been stated before, but there are plenty more that haven’t been exactly pointed out.
The facts are as follows:
- The launching is at March 23, 2007;
- The console will be priced at AUD$ 999.95 (US$ 790.63);
- There will be 30 games available for sale along with the PS3;
- First-party Sony titles will be sold at AUD$ 99.95 (US$ 79.03);
- Sixaxis controller is tagged at AUD$ 79.95 (US$ 63.22);
- Blu-Ray remote will cost AUD$ 49.95 (US$ 39.50);
- Launch units will be shipped with firmware version 1.5;
- Casino Royale will be given away at launch to the first 20,000 people who register at the Playstation Network;
- Gran Turismo HD will be available at launch;
- QANTAS will be giving away 1,000 PS3s in a competition; and,
- No prices claimed for microtransactions over the PS Network.
Other things of note at the event was Ted Price who demonstrated Resistance: Fall of Man to the audience. He played it for five minutes in God mode, and that was about it. There was also a bit of promotion of hard drive swapping, where two Sony representatives showed off their PS3 sporting a 120 GB third-party hard drive.
The event was concluded with a symphony performance by Eminence, who played pieces from Final Fantasy XII and Shadow of the Colossus.
