GDC 07: Pac-Man creator loves XNA, Panzer Dragoon lead working with Sakaguchi
In a recent interview with Gamasutra, Microsoft Game Studios corporate vice president Shane Kim and director of marketing for Microsoft’s Game Developer Group Dave Mitchell revealed that Microsoft’s efforts to carve a niche for itself in the huge Japanese videogame market is coming along nicely, thanks to the support of two big industry names.
The first is Pac-Man creator Toru Iwatani. According to Dave Mitchell, Iwatani got “extremely excited by Game Studio Express and the possibilities.” Mitchell also added that when upon his retirement, Iwatani will turn to teaching at Tokyo Polytechnic University, “using Game Studio Express to teach game design to future game designers.”
Shane Kim also revealed some interesting tidbits regarding Panzer Dragoon series director Yukio Futatsugi and his corporate whereabouts. Apparently, Futatsugi is currently “working closely” with Final Fantasy series creator and Mistwalker founder Hironobu Sakaguchi.
Kim said that as an MGS Japan employee, Futatsugi is “working closely on those projects, since those are the big things we’re working on in Japan.”
We haven’t gotten any details on what these new projects are exactly, but with such big names behind them, they’ll surely be something worth looking forward to.
