Major Nelson: “Xbox Live security not compromised”
Major Nelson has posted an official statement regarding the current status of the Xbox Live network’s security. Speculation about this issue was furthered by reports about cases of Xbox Live fraud cases. Microsoft has promised to look into the issue and, well, here’s what the Major has to say about it:
Despite some recent reports and speculation, I want to reassure all of our 6 million Xbox Live members that we have looked into the situation and found no evidence of any compromise of the security of the Xbox Live Network or Bungie.net.
There have been a few isolated incidents where malicious users have been attempting to draw personal information from unsuspecting users and use it to gain access to their LIVE account. This is a good time to remind our members that they should never give out any of their personal information.
We added the emphasis on that last part, because really, while it’s already been said a million times over, it’s never a bad thing to be reminded to take extra care. While it’s good that Microsoft hasn’t found any evidence of Xbox Live being hacked and all, everybody should still take extra steps to guard their personal information.
