Begging for gold in Blizzard’s World of Warcraft works

Begging works in World of Warcraft - Image 1In Blizzard‘s World of Warcraft, does begging for gold work? Metaphoric of Kalecgos tried an experiment in which her level 38 Troll Rogue went around begging for gold during off-peak hours. This experiment was done with a the premise of finding out if begging works in the game.

She sent a macro which stated “Excuse me, I was wondering if you had a gold or two to spare. I’ve been trying to save up for my mount by selling any grey or green items I find but all the gold I get goes back to skills or repairing. ” If she received a favorable response, she would follow up by saying “I’ve been able to save up 58g so far, but I don’t think I can make the rest before I hit 40. 🙁 I’ll take anything you can spare!”

Well, it apparently works as after 55 minutes of begging in Orgrimmar, she received 101 gold in donations (this includes the items she was given to put up for auction or sale). She contacted a total of 132 players and from those players, 21 players donated gold or items to her cause. We have to agree with her that this could actually be a viable source of income, questionable as it may be. Meanwhile, we have been wondering if other WoW players have had the same success as her.

While this experiment might seem a bit questionable (with others asking where the donated gold will go after this), she has promised to return all donations above 5 gold and use the rest as give-aways for contests.
