Xbox 360 Elite no threat to earlier models
The Microsoft Corporation has issued a statement that the newly unveiled Xbox 360 Elite model was not introduced to replace existing Core and Premium versions of the game console. The focus, they say, is still broad enough for everyone to enjoy.
Elite features a new HDMI port, a huge 120GB hard drive and some minor accessories and customizations which should boost the performance of the game machine. A degree of anxiety in the game community was quickly checked by Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb when he said “the 20GB is still a sweet spot, we’re still going to make sure that’s what we’re optimised for.”
Owners of the Core and Premium packages can also upgrade to the 120GB hard drive without having to buy the US$ 479 Elite model. All they have to do is buy the silver US$ 179 120GB hard drive and they’re all set.
The Xbox 360 Elite comes in a black body and is currently taking Japan by storm. It will be in North American stores come April 29, 2007.
