Patched TA-082 PSPs don’t support FW 3.30?
Okay, at of right now, what follows is speculation and low-level analysis based on discussions in the linked QJ Firmware forum thread. Keep that in mind as you read this – it will save a lot of grief later.
Some people are noticing that TA-082 PSPs patched to downgrade and run custom firmware can’t successfully upgrade to FW 3.30. The results, however, seem to be mixed. For those TA-082s that can’t upgrade, they get an error message. A few others, however, are able to upgrade to 3.30, no prob. People are worried about potential brickage…
(NOTA BENE: THERE ARE NO REPORTS OF BRICKED PSPS FROM STUBBORNLY TRYING TO UPGRADE AS OF NOW. THIS IS SIMPLY AN EXPRESSED WORRY OF A FEW FORUM MEMBERS. AGAIN: NO BRICKS REPORTED, JUST WORRIES. Please don’t make us repeat this…)
Right now, we’re betting that all our favorite people are looking into 3.30 right now, so the best advice for homebrew enthusiasts still remains: just wait and see if a reliable downgrader, or working Devhook or custom firmware comes out (which you guys probably are waiting for, anyway). Still, for discussion’s sake, here are the possible permutations of attempted upgrades discussed in the forums (we don’t suggest you try these without good advice, though):
- Upgrading straight from downgraded-to-FW 1.5 doesn’t seem to work at all
- Upgrading to 3.xx (e.g., 3.00) then to 3.30 bears mixed results – for one guy, it worked, although the result is a MAC Address of all zeros (he LOL).
- Another report says that 3.11 can’t go directly to 3.30 either. One attempt involved a 3.11 TA-082 patched to 1.5 for custom firmware, Recovered to official 1.5 then upped to 2.71 then 3.11, but still errors when trying to up to 3.11.
- Another report notes that his TA-082 only has five keys corrupted, downgraded to 3.03 using Noobz’s downgrader. Opinion by another forum member is that it might successfully upgrade.
- It has to be noted that FW 3.30 works for North American PSP (PSP-1001) ONLY, so this might be a factor as well.
- Thank goodness I didn’t sacrifice my PSP to find the 3.30 changelog then. It’s Japanese.
