Guitar Heronoid: the robotic Guitar Hero
This is the epitome of geekery and awesomeness, all at once. Rafael Mizrahi and Tal Chalozin from GarageGeeks have built an android of sorts that PLAYS Guitar Hero for you. Yes folks, a robot that can do better than you at guitar playing.
In truth, it’s not so much an android as a pair of robotic hands (the body) and a computerized brain that analyzes the video feed and play the game back for you, but it’s pretty sweet. The whole setup included some basic rules as well, promising that neither the controller nor the PS2 was hacked, and that the hands actually moved like real hands (making it more android-like). Pop those onto a mannequin, and you have a basic android robot that plays a mean game of Guitar Hero.
In any case, here’s some video of the Guitar Heronoid’s first live event. It looks like it got some stage fright (or some bugs), but perhaps its next performance will wow the crowds, right?
