Bungie talks about Master Chief’s Halo 3 weapons
For the past few days, we’ve been hearing all about Halo 2 and almost nothing on Halo 3 from Bungie. Don’t worry, the developers are still working very hard on the video game, and in fact, Producer Frank O’ Connor recently had a talk with magazine GamePro and discussed the changes to the Master Chief‘s weapons.
The producer mentioned that SMG (Sub Machine Gun) will ever be present but slightly modified. However, the Brute Shot is still a bit in limbo, but O’ Connor commented that it is “almost certain” to make a return. Anyway, you will be happy to know that Master Chief can dual-wield the weapon Brute Spiker. Then O’Connor added,
Players will have plentiful grenade options. More on that soon. But grenades have an added layer of strategy this time around. Picking role-specific ‘nades is important, but silkily natural. The Needler has gone through significant changes. I’ll call them improvements. The instant death attack – filling your opponent with a certain number of consecutive crystal-shards – is being tuned. But yes, it will still assplode your face.
Despite all these revelations, it became evident that O’ Connor wanted to focus on SMGs during the interview. After all, automatic rifles (AR) are kind of a staple to any kind of a shooting title. He mentioned that by launch, people will be seeing that the weapon has been honed to a glossy sheen. Aside from the outside appearance, the producer said that ARs are rather indispensable.
SMGs are still there, tweaked slightly, but not dramatically. The purpose of the AR is to fill a void, or rather, a vital role. A weapon that is not only useful to spawn with, but is flexible and powerful enough that you might stick with it rather than favoring another type of weapon.
Halo 3 is expected to hit North America this coming fall while fans in Japan will get it on December 31.
