The other day, Bungie cleared up the smoke concerning the internal beta testing for Halo 3 that will commence a few days before the public beta testing itself. And it’s only a matter of time before the much anticipated video game is finally released. The million dollar question now though is when exactly this release will take place.

It could be August 2007, if you will believe the report of the website Advertising Age. According to the site, PepsiCo will allegedly release a Halo 3-themed Mountain Dew that will coincide with the game’s release. The said drink is going to be citrus-cherry flavored sporting the images of Master Chief and the words “limited edition”.

Microsoft declined to comment about the matter but one representative from Pepsi-Cola North America said,

Gaming is an important component in the marketing efforts for Mountain Dew. Our goal is to go beyond traditional advertising by creating initiatives that make the brand an integral part of the gaming experience. We have some exciting programs coming this summer.

The two companies, Microsoft and PepsiCo, have pulled out similar stunts before. Back in 2005, the cola company gave away more or less 10,000 Xbox 360 units as part of its “Every 10 Minutes” promotions which ran for nine weeks. The brand Mountain Dew, likewise, was involved with the 360 in a 2004 sweepstakes that gave away a neon-green system featuring the drink’s logo.

You might be interested to know that the Halo 3 Dew is being marketed as Game Fuel and will contain 120 milligrams of caffeine per bottle. These images were posted over at The Llamma’s Game Console Forums by Damorian.
