Persona 3 wins over Blue Dragon and FFXII in Famitsu awards
We’re way into 2007 already, but Famitsu has just recently released their list of winners for their 2006 game awards. What’s amusing and noteworthy about this slightly predictable list is that an unexpected title won the RPG award. In the presence of titles like Final Fantasy XII and Blue Dragon, the award went to Atlus Co.’s Persona 3.
Not entirely surprising to folks who are familiar with the Persona franchise, but still a surprise to more mainstream RPG gaming folk.
Below is a list of the awards and the games that won.
- Rookie Award – Blue Dragon
- Best Hit Award – Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
- Innovation Award – Wii Sports
- Rearrange Award – New Super Mario Brothers
- High Performance Award – The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Dramatic Award – Ryu Ga Gotoku 2 (Yakuza 2)
- Game Design Award – Okami
- Multiplayer Action Award – Monster Hunter Portable 2
- Impact Award – Dead Rising
- Portable Award – Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
- RPG Award – Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3
- Most Valuable Person – Hironobu Sakaguchi
- Game character of the Year – Mario
- Game company of the year – Nintendo
- Grand Prize: Game of the Year Award – Final Fantasy XII, Pokemon: Diamond and Pearl
Nice to see that MGS: Portable Ops also got credit. Funny though that Mario won Game character of the Year. Shouldn’t that veteran be getting a lifetime achievement award or something already?
Persona 3 is set to be released in North America this summer as a special edition bundle. The game is set to come complete with art-book and a soundtrack for all you hardcore fans out there.
