Expanding the World of Warcraft territories: Northrend
A lot players of Blizzard‘s World of Warcraft feel that the landmass of Azeroth is either too small or too large. All players would agree however, that additional content wouldn’t hurt.
So what new lands are planned to be made available to us players? Well, to be honest, no one can confirm anything…yet. However, in a recent WoW Insider article, they discussed the possible addition of Northrend. The claim to these new additions were further strengthened by the folder in the PTR expansion. Now the basic question is, what is Northrend?
Northrend is a frozen continent where the Lich King has set up his bastion of power atop the Icecrown Glacier. Most will remember this as the throne which Arthas claimed at the end of the RTS game. This land once belong to the Nerubians and their subterranean kingdom Azjol-Nerub. These spider-like creatures attacked the Scourge but were promptly put down by the combined might of the Lich King’s minions and the Dreadlords. Of course, these former foes were “invited” into undeath and incorporated into the forces of the Scourge.
The land is also home to Ice Trolls, Wendigo, Polar Bears, Blue Dragons, Furbolgs, and Penguins. This would make a perfect addition to the game given the amount of history this land has.
While this is all speculation, many a player has already mentioned the desire to see the Frozen Throne and perhaps have a duel with Arthas. Some even dream of wielding the mighty FrostMourne, but that’s getting a bit ahead of ourselves. Hopefully, things pan out well and we do get this addition to the game. I know I’m excited to take a trek to Northrend, and I’m sure a lot of other players feel the same way.
