Halo 3 to bring Microsoft’s Xbox division out of constant losses
Halo is undeniably the title that carried the Xbox name. With such a wide user base, analysts believe that Halo 3‘s sales will be big enough to give Microsoft‘s Xbox division its first profitable quarter ever.
A group of analysts from Goldman-Sachs expect 4.2 million copies of Halo 3 to ship into the retail channel, while earning Microsoft US$ 170 million in revenue (assuming Microsoft earn 80% of retail price). If the analysts’ projections are correct, there will be 13.2 million Xbox 360 owners by September – which would leave a single copy of the game for every three units.
Microsoft’s Xbox division will experience its first ever profitable quarter just a week after Halo 3‘s release, says Goldman-Sachs analysts. Since 2005, the entertainment and devices division have been losing millions and even billions. If the analysts hit the money, Halo will become Xbox’s pride once more.
